We are pleased to announce that Cheetah’s artwork has won 2nd place in the Chimpanzee Art Contest hosted by
Humane Society of United States and also won as best by
Dr. Jane Goodall.
Painting is a form of enrichment for many captive chimpanzees and for our resident artist Cheetah, it’s one of his favorite things to do.
The Chimpanzee Art Contest featured paintings created by 6 chimpanzee residents of sanctuaries within the U.S., all member of the North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance. Over 27,000 online votes were received! In winning 2nd place, Save the Chimps will be awarded a $5,000 grant from HSUS. In addition to the online voting, world renowned primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall judged the contest and selected Cheetah’s art as the best! This designation secured an additional $5,000 grant!
Dr. Goodall made her selection based on the paintings only and her decision was made prior to the online voting. No information regarding the artists or their sanctuaries were shared with her.
Thank you HSUS for all your hard work and publicity
in support of the sanctuaries.
Thank you Dr. Goodall for your participation in the contest and for all you have done to change the lives and fate of countless chimpanzees.
And a special thank you to all of our supporters for making our work possible and giving Cheetah and 260 others the peaceful and dignified retirement they deserve. Our work would not be possible without you.
