speaking out for the chimps

Save the Chimps welcomes the recent NIH decision to cease experimentation on 110 chimpanzees currently residing at New Iberia Primate Research Center, but disagrees with the decision to relocate 100 of the chimpanzees to the Texas Biomedical Research Institute. According to reports, ten chimpanzees will be retired at Chimp Haven, which, like STC, is a member of NAPSA and a GFAS accredited sanctuary. The remaining 100 will be warehoused in a research laboratory. All 110 chimpanzees are deserving of retirement in a quality sanctuary setting, and we encourage the NIH to consider retirement in a NAPSA sanctuary for all of the chimpanzees.
