Meet Mickey – a 46-year-old chimpanzee who embodies the resilience and strength of all the elderly chimps we care for at Save the Chimps. Chimpanzees are considered elderly by the age of 35, and Mickey, along with her family, needs your support. This Giving Day for Apes, our goal is to raise $100,000 in honor of the nearly 100 elderly residents who call Save the Chimps home.
Rescued in 2002 from a grim biomedical research facility known as “The Coulston Foundation,” Mickey had lived in a barren, cramped concrete cage for years. She shared this tiny space with her dear friend, Mary Jane, until 2002 when Save the Chimps gave them the chance to experience a new life. Now, Mickey is thriving on a 3-acre island alongside Freddy’s Family, where she enjoys the freedom to explore, nap in the sun, and relish her favorite meals—like fresh greens, lettuce, and green beans.
While Mary Jane has since passed, Mickey is surrounded by loving companions and receives personalized care from her caregivers. Thanks to generous supporters like you, she enjoys not only daily nutritious meals but also individualized medical attention and engaging enrichment activities that keep her happy and healthy in her golden years.
You can make an incredible difference in Mickey’s life—and the lives of all our elderly chimpanzees. Giving Day for Apes is October 8th, but you can donate today! Every donation helps us reach our $100,000 goal, and also increases our chances of winning cash prizes from the event sponsors.
Together, we can give Mickey and her family the care, joy, and respect they deserve for the rest of their lives.
Please make your gift today and help us reach our goal!
