We at Save the Chimps are excited to introduce you to our more than 250 amazing chimpanzee residents! Each month we will feature one of the 12 islands at the Sanctuary so that you can get to know the chimpanzees that make up the families and the personality of group as a whole.
This month we would like to introduce you to Ron’s Family. Ron’s family consists of chimpanzees rescued from both The Coulston Foundation and the pet trade.
Chimpanzees from the pet trade usually have difficulty adjusting to living with other chimpanzees. They often grow up in a home and are treated like a human child. By the time they are rescued, many believe they are human and find it very challenging to relate to other chimpanzees. Over time, they do acclimate.
April, Kramer, and Connor the 2nd are all former pet chimpanzees. Today they are living and thriving in a family group of 23 chimpanzees.
There are several young chimpanzees living in Ron’s family , making this group an energetic one, full of family fun. April is often on her favorite platform with a large nest of blankets while the youngsters play around and on the poles extending above her.
