Molly headshotIn early April we were honored to have Dr. Jane Goodall visit Save the Chimps. This held a special significance for me personally. Many years ago I had the privilege of working with Jane in East Africa, studying chimpanzees in the wild. The lessons learned from having Jane as a mentor and the insights gained from living among our closest relatives have had a lifelong impact on me. Although there are differences between chimps in the wild and those in captivity, the 98.6% DNA match to humans is still the same powerful denominator. To be working with chimps again and having the opportunity to reconnect with Jane has impressed upon me the need to redouble our efforts to ensure that our Sanctuary chimps are given every opportunity possible to live out their lives with the dignity and caring they deserve.
