About Me

I was born September 5, 1986, at LEMSIP, a lab in New York which closed down in 1997. When LEMSIP closed, I was sent to New Iberia, a research center in Louisiana. From New Iberia, I was retired to a sanctuary at the Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO) where I became the alpha of my small group. In 2011, WAO had to close its doors due to financial difficulties. WAO moved their chimpanzees to other sanctuaries, me and ten other WAO chimps would now call Save the Chimps our home.

After moving to Save the Chimps, me and the rest of my group were introduced to more chimps. This included Dwight, who would become the alpha of this new group and my best friend. I’m happy to have passed on the role of alpha but I will continue to assist my friend as needed if the group ever gets to be too much to handle! My caregivers describe me as a happy and friendly chimp. A part of sanctuary life is yummy food and enrichment to keep the chimps occupied, both of which I enjoy very much.
