About Me

Hello! My name is Hailey and I was born on May 4, 1993. My parents, Nova and Mack, gave birth to me at the Coulston Foundation biomedical research laboratory in Alamogordo, NM. I was taken from my mother at birth and raised in the lab’s nursery. It was more cost-effective for the laboratory to take the babies away at birth so that the mothers could breed more often.

I was rescued by Save the Chimps in 2002 at the age of nine. I was always a bit nervous in new surroundings and relied on the comfort of my half-sister, Jasmine, for years. We were always hugging and reassuring one another. I have become much more confident in Florida surrounded by my large chimpanzee family on Lou’s island. I love pineapples, bananas and lots of other fruits & veggies. I’m known for keeping an eye on the maintenance team and observing how they use their tools. I enjoy mimicking this behavior with toy tools. I am such a smart chimp that when given a toy cell phone, is often seen mimicking texting, scrolling, calling and even trying to take pictures of my human caregivers. I’m such a sweet girl who loves to lounge in the beautiful Florida weather.
