About Me

Hello! My name is Belinda and I was born March 21, 1993. My parents, Lupe and Dave, gave birth to me at The Coulston Foundation in Alamogordo, NM. Unlike most chimps born at Coulston, I was not immediately taken from my mother. Instead, she raised me for two years before I was eventually taken from her. I spent the next seven years in a small cage, not participating in any biomedical research but anesthetized four times a year for physicals.

In 2002, I was rescued by Save the Chimps. I am happily living in Rufus’s family where I have lots of friends and places to run and play.  I am incredibly smart and know how to do a lot of amazing things. In fact, Dr. Noon was known to describe me as a genius! I like to make tools out of things I find on the island and love to trade things for treats. Besides being known for my smarts, I am sweet and spunky. These days, I am a happy-go-lucky girl who enjoys my family time in the beautiful Florida sun. You can see me best early in the morning roaming around the island, typically waiting to be the last one to come up for breakfast.
