About Me

In Memory

Hello! My name is April the 2nd, and I was born on September 8, 1991. My parents, Dee and Dave, gave birth to me at the Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB). Unlike many chimps born into biomedical research, I was not taken from my mother at birth. Dee and I remained together for a year before I was taken and put with a random male chimp named Sinbad. Eventually, the chimps at HAFB were turned over to The Coulston Foundation, a biomedical research laboratory. Over time, I met six other young chimps, including my first girlfriends, Daphne and Luisita.

In September 2002, I was recused by Save the Chimps. Since then, I have moved in with my family onto Rufus’s island, where there is lots of room to run and play. I am very flexible and often do stretches that look like yoga poses. I enjoy the company of my friends Sinbad, Daphne and Luisita. I also love to hang out and play chase with my human caregivers. Save the Chimps has given me the opportunity to be my true self, all while eating lots of amazing food and cuddling up with comfy blankets and toys. My life here is super enriching and fun all day long.
