I was born on September 8, 1991, at the Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB), to my mother Dee and my father Dave. Unlike many chimps born into biomedical research, I was not taken from my mother at birth. Dee and I remained together for a year, but on my first birthday, I was suddenly taken from my mother and put with a young male named Sinbad. The chimps at HAFB, including me, were eventually turned over to The Coulston Foundation (TCF), a biomedical research laboratory, and I moved off of the Air Force Base. Over time, I met six other young chimps, including my first girlfriends, Daphne and Luisita.
In September 2002, TCF closed its doors, and Save the Chimps rescued me and 265 other chimps. I am very flexible and often do stretches that look like yoga poses. I enjoy the company of my guy-friend Sinbad. I will never again be subjected to research studies, or frequent “knockdowns”, but instead will spend my days enjoying the company of the other chimps in my family, Rufus’ Family, and the freedom to our sunny island in Florida.
